[ out of howls. ] I think one of the best parts about Twilight—and one of the best parts about the characters in this saga—involves the treatment of the tribe and the constituents of the tribe. You can put Twilight on blast all you want, and you can make fun of it and debase it and berate it for what it is, but quite frankly I have seen no other modern films depict life on reservation in such a positive yet legitimate way. It speaks to the true nature of not only the Quileute reservation, but members of other Indian tribes as well. Obviously we don’t have gargantuan, shapeshifting wolves running around, but — we see the truth of their lives even in the smallest clips.

No other film made for my demographic–teenage females–has ever been made using individuals that are actually, genuinely Native Indian and can recall their Indian ancestry to a specific tribe. Paul’s actor Alex Meraz, Seth’s actor Booboo Stewart, Chaske Spencer who plays Sam, Julia Jones who plays Leah, Gil Birmingham who plays Billy Black, Graham Greene who plays Harry Clearwater. They’re all Indian. None of them were whitewashed, and the notion that white or Caucasian actors are superior to those that are persons of color is certainly not evident here. I also just love how respectful the Cullens are–specifically–to the tribe. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Edward and Seth’s friendship is so cute – and despite the fact that they are wolves, he cares for them. Empirically, Seth. Bella as well. She respects the tribe and its history so much – she’s wary of auditing the council.
