That certainly called for a more sheepish response. He’d always been the charismatic sort, but there were times where both his eccentricity and his athleticism lead to premature breaches or halts in discourse, or communication. He had himself an ego–perhaps not an ego that rivaled Finnick Odair’s–but an ego nonetheless. But in spite of all that confidence, he was was not impervious to all forces of doubt and uncertainty.
A man’s vanity is more fragile that you might think. It’s easy for us to mistake shyness for coldness, and silence for indifference.
